What is it about?

Mixing languages (code switching) is generally perceived of as sloppy speech. In this article I claim that language mixing is never random, but that instead intricate rules apply.

Why is it important?

We should not think in 'languages' but rather in 'linguistic repetoires', but rules and conventions in language practices (such as code switching which is supposed not to have any rules) are created on the spot.
