What is it about?
This study examined 1,374 undergraduate biology course enrollments at Kuwait University to determine how class attendance was associated with academic performance. It also tested whether this relationship varied with instructional factors, course scheduling, and student characteristics.

Why is it important?
Attendance was one of the strongest predictors of course performance, and more absences were consistently associated with lower grades. The relationship remained after accounting for multiple instructional and student factors, although the observational design does not establish that absence itself caused the lower performance.
Perspectives
This study allowed me to examine the attendance-performance relationship across many biology courses and semesters rather than within a single class. The results suggest that attendance provides a useful and consistent indicator of student performance across different instructional contexts.
