What is it about?

This research presents an advanced hybrid optimization framework for improving the performance of photovoltaic thermal (PVT) systems combined with a solar thermal collector (STC). It integrates Response Surface Methodology (RSM) for modeling, the Multi-Objective Bat Algorithm (MOBA) for exploring optimal solutions along the Pareto front, and VIKOR, a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach, for selecting the best trade-off solution. The study demonstrates the framework's effectiveness through a case study, addressing limitations of traditional optimization methods and enhancing system efficiency.

Why is it important?

Integrating Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with AI-based optimization algorithms is crucial for advancing photovoltaic thermal (PVT) systems. This combination enhances efficiency, performance, and robustness by addressing the limitations of traditional optimization methods, leading to more effective and data-driven decision-making in solar energy technologies.

Perspectives

This research focuses on optimizing photovoltaic thermal (PVT) systems using a hybrid framework that integrates Response Surface Methodology (RSM), the Multi-Objective Bat Algorithm (MOBA), and the VIKOR decision-making method. The study demonstrates the accuracy of RSM models (R² > 0.999) in predicting system performance and the effectiveness of MOBA in generating Pareto-optimal solutions. Key findings include: Optimal conditions: Maximum performance was achieved at 1000 W/m² solar radiation, 70 kg/h mass flow rate, and a 24°C minimum inlet temperature. Environmental effects: Electrical efficiency improved at ambient temperatures below 21°C, while thermal efficiency increased at higher temperatures. Wind speed had a non-linear impact, with peak performance at 1–2 m/s or 4–5 m/s. Decision-making: VIKOR enabled optimal solution selection based on different design priorities. The research provides valuable insights for enhancing hybrid PVT system efficiency, contributing to the advancement of renewable energy technologies.
