What is it about?

This paper continues our work that explores entrepreneurship as socially situated and socially embedded. Again we take 'place' as our unit for analysis, but in this case we look at an unusual place, a poor fishing village in Ghana.

Why is it important?

The study demonstrates that very different forms of entrepreneurship may arise and develop in particular contexts. In this case we found how entrepreneurship had emerged as a 'mutual' phenomenon. Individual interests and benefits seemed to take second place to the general welfare of the village as a community.

Perspectives

I believe that we demonstrate that entrepreneurship is, or can be, deeply socially embedded.
