Soil bacterium Chitinophaga pinensis secretes glycoside hydrolases for polysaccharide metabolism.

What is it about?

We used proteomic analysis to identify the proteins secreted by Chitinophaga pinensis when grown on different carbohydrates derived from plant biomass. We found that different types of mannan can induce different sub-sets of glycoside hydrolases, but that a stable cohort of enzymes appears to be constitutively produced regardless of the carbon source.
