What is it about?
Opioid analgesics (such as morphine) are used to manage moderate to severe pain and can be used with older adults. However, they may lead to side effects, including drowsiness. This paper examines existing evidence on how opioids impact older adults with cancer and non-cancer pain in terms of cognition (e.g. drowsiness, attention). It also looks at the assessments that are used to identify changes to cognition from using opioids.
