What is it about?
We analysed all SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR tests recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from March 2020 to July 2021. Reinfection was defined as a second positive test at least 90 days after the first. Among 142,787 people who had tested positive, 317 suspected reinfections were identified—0.22%—with most detected through hospital referrals.

Why is it important?
The low observed proportion suggests substantial protection after infection, but surveillance may miss asymptomatic cases and genomic confirmation was unavailable. Province-wide data help quantify recurring infection and guide testing, monitoring and future prospective studies.
Perspectives
From my perspective, this work matters because The low observed proportion suggests substantial protection after infection, but surveillance may miss asymptomatic cases and genomic confirmation was unavailable. I hope the findings support further research and informed, evidence-based decisions.
