What is it about?
Nano-cryptomelane was prepared, characterized and used for the removal of Co2+, Cs+ and Pb2+ from a multi-system solution. Some kinetic and popular isotherm models for the multicomponent systems were tested. the desorption studies were provided. The desorption percentage attains the maximum value (98.13%, 97.29 and 97.04 for lead, cesium and cobalt ions, respectively) using 0.7 mol/L of HNO3. This revealed that nano-cryptomelane can be regenerated and reused for farther sorption of Pb2+, Cs+ and Co2+ from wastewater.

Why is it important?
The scientific impact of the work is protection of the environment from hazardous pollutants using nano-scale material. Therefore, this work focused on the preparation of nano-cryptomelane by oxidation method and evaluation of its performance for the removal of Co, Cs and Pb ions from multicomponent solutions. The diameter distribution of nano-cryptomelane was found to be 4-6 nm.
Perspectives
Nano-cryptomelane is an efficient sorbent media and recommended for the removal of Pb, Cs and Co ions from wastewater.
