What is it about?

Authors developed a clever way to clean wastewater and recover valuable nutrients. They used a special technique that separates and concentrates important elements like nitrogen and phosphorus from water. By doing this, they can create cleaner water and collect useful nutrients that can be reused, which helps protect the environment and reduce waste.

Why is it important?

It provides a thorough evaluation of operating parameters for a bench-scale electrodialysis (ED) plant, specifically designed for nutrient concentration from a REAL Anaerobic Membrane BioReactor (AnMBR) effluent, making the results more applicable to practical scenarios. This study wants to help in the transformation of traditional wastewater treatment plants into resources recovery facilities, promoting in this way the circular economy.

Perspectives

- First work of a new research line. - Future works will face long term operation. - Other real effluents will be studied.
