What is it about?

This study compare the effects of different resistance exercises modalities based on antagonist muscle preload. We evaluated the muscle fatigue, isokinetic load range (characterized by the phase in which subjects were able to sustain the predetermined exercise velocity of the equipment), total work, blood lactate and biceps femoris co-activation during three resistance exercise modalities for the knee joint.

Why is it important?

Preload of antagonist muscles can be achieved by reciprocal actions (RAs) or by opposing muscle actions. However, evidence concerning neuromuscular and fatigue responses are scarce in this resistance exercise context.
