What is it about?

A systemic analysis of a megaproject before and after a major highway construction and expansion in a mouintainous area. In addition to invested money, also energy, material, and labour inputs are tracked, thus revealing unexpected results leading us to reconsider the convenience of the project in a challenging century. Time is found out to be a crucial decision-making driver, yet costing so much. The analysis leads to higher discourses on societal priorities when coming to the allocation of scarce resources as well as to the depiction of a sustainable future.

Why is it important?

This work is crucially timely in an era when megaprojects are built often in spite of local populations opposition as well as in lack of proper strategies in a challenging century promising less and less resources in an induced climate change scenario . Understanding the hidden social and ecological costs of some civil works might help us reconsider our social proprities in order to envirion a prosperous sustainable and desirable future past the causes of the present social, ecological, and environmental crises.
