It also presents empirical evidence according to which democracies enhance the production of energies from the modern renewable sources.

Why is it important?

It is essencial to have an overview of the literature on the influence of politics in the adoption of renewable energies. Issues like governance and lobbying, market incentives like subsides and tariffs, public acceptance and the NIMBY argument and influence of political parties are addressed in this revision of the literature.

Perspectives

It was important to review a literature that has been increasing as the importance of climate change is in the world. It highlights the main topics that have been studied. Moreover it adds empirical evidence on the importance democracies have in the investment in renewable energies. Together with the article in the Global Environmental Change: Human and Policy Dimensions, it is a mark of my renewed interest on the effects climate change have on development with particular emphasis on the interactions with policies and politics.
