What is it about?

A case report in a patient with dexterity problems after stroke. The patient is uncomfortable with the chosen CIMT approach. An alternative based upon the PNF-concept (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) is explained and monitored. The approach is effective for the specified patient, hence motor learning effects are possible also with other means of physical therapy / rehabilitation then the advocated CIMT approach.

Why is it important?

This case report demonstrates that a sound clinical reasoning on individual level results in a comprehensive rehabilitation approach (PNF-based motor learning) supported with evidence. Hence a clear demonstration of the three (3) components of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in a clinical setting, as defined by Sacket et al. (1996)

Perspectives

This article might lead towards more personalized treatments in (neurological) rehabilitation. Furthermore I hope that further research will be initiated based upon the described case and reasoning.
