What is it about?

Co-author. I was responsible for field collection of much of the obsidian from field work in Chaco Canyon and getting it analyzed, over time, by 4 different laboratories.

Why is it important?

Sourcing the obsidian helps provide direct links between use at a site and its original source, barring reuse of the obsidian picked up off earlier sites. For Chaco, the vast majority of obsidian comes from two areas: the Jemez Mts. and Mt. Taylor in northern new Mexico (NNW and W of Albuquerque, respectively).
