What is it about?
The Pharmacists' Patient Care Process (PPCP) was described by the Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners in 2014. This process provides a framework and common language to pharmacists' care for patients. This work explored practicing pharmacists' knowledge and perception of the PPCP using guided interviews. Additionally, using a simulated patient case, pharmacists were observed as incorporating most elements of the PPCP into their practice.

Why is it important?
It is important that pharmacists have full awareness of the PPCP. The participants in this study showed some awareness of the process, did perceive that the process adds value to the profession and felt that it reflects their care of patients.
Perspectives
I believe that increased awareness and use of the PPCP can help pharmacists to become recognized as health care providers in the United States through the use of common language to describe what pharmacists do when providing patient care. It is important that pharmacists in all areas of practice can see see how the PPCP relates to them. The simulated patient case in this paper (based on Nusair and Guirguis's work: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.sapharm.2017.07.002) provides an example of how practicing pharmacists can learn more about the PPCP.
