What is it about?

This is a work on the foundations of compound stability: what drives a certain compound to appear in the given system. This time we observe a correlation between magnetization and ordering tendencies in Fe-M compounds, in the sense that they compete (large magnetic moments result in less stable compounds).

Why is it important?

For the first time we show that compound stability and magnetism are correlated. Knowing why certain compounds are stable and others not is important in applications like catalysis materials development, but the present work is mostly fundamental in nature.

Perspectives

This work started with some calculations made by my long-time collaborator Prof. Dr. Pablo Guillermo Gonzales Ormeno (UNTECS, Peru) , the contribution of Prof. Petrilli was also important to understand the intricacies of the electronic structure of these intermetallic compounds.
