What is it about?

La2Mo2O9-based oxide ion conductors have been around for a long period of time, but rarely used as components of solid oxide fuel cell. This work demonstrates that the 10% Dy-doped La2Mo2O9 possesses high conductivities in the temperature range 600-700 oC, can be implemented as electrolyte under mixed reactant conditions. Accompanied with the new cell, we devise an in-situ initialization procedure.

Why is it important?

La2Mo2O9 has an ideal phase transition temperature for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cell applications. How to use this oxide ion conductor is a significant issue.

Perspectives

Issues on the ion conductivity of La2Mo2O9 are centered on the reducibility of Mo6+, where major oxygen anion paths encircle. Can we stabilize the high valenced Mo without changing the oxygen anion environment?
