What is it about?

Lithofacies, facies, depositional environments, and depositional sequences of the upper Barremian-lower Aptian deposits located in northern central Alborz Mountain Range.

Why is it important?

An understanding of the controlling factors in lithofacies and facies distribution together with carbonate platform geometry will make a useful contribution to further investigation regarding local tectonic, relative sea-level changes, climate, and carbonate secreting organisms in the poorly understood area (northern central Alborz Mountain Range).

Perspectives

It explains a short period which have recorded evidence of tectonic quiescence and establishment of carbonate factory after major extensional movements related to South Caspian Basin.
