What is it about?

This study looked at the different influences which changed eye responses after targeted exercises. Apart from different exercise regimes, all other testing conditions were identical, so different approaches could be directly compared. Simple convergence exercises and enthusiastic encouragement were independently the most effective strategies.

Why is it important?

While vergence exercises have some effect, effort and possibly voluntary influences are a critical factor in the “success” of orthoptic exercises/and vision therapy. More careful attention should be paid to these effects when making claims for efficacy of eye exercises in patient groups.
