What is it about?

Structure is used to locate content in documents (e.g. when talking about "article 10 of this contract", "chapter 2 of this book", etc). In this paper we present a method to analyze document content and automatically create the links that relate the citing content to the cited fragment of a document.

Why is it important?

Structure manipulation was integrated in reference resolution in an automatic process, which takes profit of XML markup.

Perspectives

Combining reference extraction from content with XML markup, mapping the intellectual process that users naturally do when citing, was an original contribution of this paper. Indeed, the respect to the intellectual models of users in automatic processing is one of its essential characteristics. This approach is well alligned with the current initiatives for linking data and resources on the web and social networks.
