What is it about?

On short (nano) length scale the heat transport cannot be described by the classical Fourier law. We use the discrete variable model to analyze heat conduction across a nano film and to describe transition from diffusive to ballistic regime.

Why is it important?

With the continued progress in development and production of nanostructures and nanosystems, the control of heat conduction via natural materials and metamaterials driven by ultrafast excitation is of great practical importance.

Perspectives

We use a relatively simple model which, however, catches the main non-Fourier effects and may be useful to study other ultrafast transport phenomena.
