Why is it important?

Disruptions in disaster relief operation, as the results of risks, impact effectiveness, efficiency, and responsiveness of response significantly. However, our study shows that supply chain risks in humanitarian response can be managed effectively given constraints in this context. Using logistics service providers for in-country transportation not only helped humanitarians to reduce and transfer some high-level risks but also helped to grow the local economy after the earthquake.

Perspectives

This paper aims to provide field evidence for humanitarians regarding how they can improve their operations. It also has implications for theory and provides some concrete future research directions.
