What is it about?

The main topic of the article is a stress-induced myocardial disease, such a Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. In the article, the authors have shown that stress could cause not only such a rare disease as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, but could be a reason for the development of various types of heart diseases. Moreover, even the Takotsubo cardiomyopathy should not be considered as a disease with favorable outcome, and can cause not only severe complications such as pulmonary oedema, cardiogenic shock, and dangerous ventricular arrhythmias, but also damage to the myocardium, which can result in the development of potentially fatal conditions.

Why is it important?

Based on this review, 3 distinct types of stress cardiomyopathies exist (variant angina, microvascular angina, and TTC), with poor prognosis. According to the authors, stress-induced cardiomyopathies, even the Takotsubo cardiomyopathy should not be considered as a diseases with favorable outcome, thus they are able to cause not only severe complications such as pulmonary oedema, cardiogenic shock, and dangerous ventricular arrhythmias, but also damage to the myocardium, which can result in the development of potentially fatal conditions.

Perspectives

Based on this review, 3 distinct types of stress cardiomyopathies exist (variant angina, microvascular angina, and TTC), with poor prognosis and adding these diseases to the classification of cardiomyopathies will facilitate diagnosis and preventive prolonged treatment, which should include intensive anti-stress therapy.
