What is it about?

In this study, insulin-loaded chitosan nanoparticles were coated onto the electrospun poly (ε- caprolactone) (PCL)/Collagen (COLL) to produce a potential wound care material. After the characterization of the dressings, the wound healing efficacy was evaluated in the animal model.

Why is it important?

Wound healing is a complicated, dynamic, and multifactorial process. Proper wound dressing containing growth factor can effectively improve the healing process and enhance healing quality. PCL/Coll electrospun nanofibers can be a remarkable dressing media due to its the physical and biological properties. Moreover, Insulin effect on cellular and molecular mechanisms of wound healing by induces activation of IR/IRS/PI3K/AKT pathways. AKT increase VEGF and it helps to induce the phosphorylation and activation of eNOS in bone marrow with the consequent mobilization of Endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) to the circulation, where they participate in tissue regeneration.

Perspectives

Based on our promising obtained results, this nanoplatform can be a suitable wound dressing and it will find its way to market.
