What is it about?

When a child is affected by cancer, the whole family is affected especially the primary caregiver of the family. Going through the trajectory comes with psychological and spiritual dilemmas and decisions that affect care outcomes and well-being.

Why is it important?

Most of the experiences of family caregivers are not recognized or documented because caregivers see the role as obligatory hence endure and neglect their health and wellbeing in persuance of caring for their sick children. However, knowledge and appropriate interventions for these category of persons can positively affect the care outcomes of sick children and helping towards achieving the sustainable development goal three.

Perspectives

This article actually helped me to understand what is behind the veil of smiles caregivers put up when you are interacting with them concerning their sick children, how parents or caregiver prioritize their children over every other aspect of their lives, and the emotional exhaustion or trauma associated with nursing your 'baby' on a sick bed. Helped me to appreciate the frailty of life and why the need to involve family members in the care of their sick relatives in order to promote their well-being.
