What is it about?

It is a non randomised study comparing thoracoscopic surgical ablation to catheter ablation. This study is extremely useful as it is the first to review thoracoscopic surgical ablation against catheter ablation for LSPAF. It is also the first to perform electrophysiologist guided thoracoscopic surgical ablation to test for blocks and lesion completeness.

Why is it important?

LSPAF are increasing being diagnosed and now the treatment is geared towards ablation particularly for patients who are symptomatic.

Perspectives

I am very excited about the results of this study and whether it will be able to change management for LSPAF using surgical techniques.
