What is it about?

It is an open-access overview of the prevalence of global parasitic worm infections. The article also reported the incredibly increase in resistance of worms to broadspectrum deworm drugs. Worm infections are neglected diseases that causes huge mortality, particularly in school-age children. The overview suggested alternative treatment using herbal medicine. These medicinal plants have been proven to be effective, safe, no side effects and cheap. The article concluded that perhaps a novel drug can be produced from the anti-worm medical plants, which will have a different mechanism of action compare to the conventional deworm drugs.

Why is it important?

The findings outcry the neglect of parasitic worms and the global disease burden. The articles have been able to identify medicinal plants that can be used against parasitic worms and predicted these plants could be a source for a new and better drug against parasites worms.

Perspectives

Writing and creating awareness of the neglected disease (Parasitic worm) is a pleasure. This overview is proposed to provide valuable information that can impact individual and influence government policy on the neglected disease.
