What is it about?
Primary peritoneal serous borderline tumors (PPSBT) are epithelial proliferations with low malignant potential, but they are rare entities. Due to their rarity, PPSBTs are often misdiagnosed as undiagnosed diffuse primary ovarian carcinomas. This leads to unnecessary and more aggressive treatments. Tough, accurate recognition of PPSBT is crucial in clinical practice.

Why is it important?
This narrative review examines the current literature to provide practical guidance on the diagnosis and management of PPSBT.
Perspectives
With advancements in laparoscopic procedures, the preservation of fertility and reduction of postoperative complications seem achievable without compromising the oncological outcomes. This raises an important question: Should laparoscopy be more widely adopted in the management of PPSBT, especially considering the generally good prognosis and the benefits of minimally invasive surgery?
