What is it about?
There are two ISG15 genes in Asian sea bass that are induced by viral infection. Within the genome, ISG15A and ISG15B reside close together. ISG15A and ISG15B basal expression was higher in organs rich in leukocytes, including the head kidney, heart, spleen, and gills. When Poly (I:C) injections were administered to Lates, both ISG15 genes were rapidly upregulated. There was also an upregulation of ISG15 genes in the kidney, spleen, heart, and gills when infected with the red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus in vivo. According to the findings, the two ISG15 homologues play an important role in antiviral immunity and could be used to enhance prophylactic strategies and develop species-specific immunological tools for Lates calcarifer.
