What is it about?

Human gut flora from lean and obese individuals metabolize non-digestible fraction of spent coffee grounds (hgf-NDSCG) through different chemopreventive mechanisms. Overweight/hgf-NDSCG displayed cytostatic and cytotoxic effects on HT-29. Lean/hgf-NDSCG induced HT-29 cell apoptosis by reducing oxidative stress.

Why is it important?

Our study demonstrate that the chemopreventive effect of novel functional food product/s (SCG) is dependent on individual (lean vs obese) metbolomics.

Perspectives

Food products can be developed to target consumers with different BMI
