What is it about?

Product engineering also involves the identification of suitable manufacturing technologies. In our latest work, we propose a framework to select feasible manufacturing technologies with respect to product design, and for identifying the most suitable one by means of TOPSIS multi-criteria decision making.

Why is it important?

The framework has been applied in a case study of the food and beverage industry. Since this is a very complex sector, because of the norms and regulations to obey, we have proved its usefulness and possibility to be generally used in technology selection problems.

Perspectives

I guess this study might be of interest for enterprises that traditionally strive for decision-making because they usually fail to recognise the technology state-of-the-art. As well as for enlightened companies that are facing the industry evolution towards the smartification of processes, by means of an even growing company business intelligence.
