What is it about?

We analysed how access to policymaking and the ability to influence policies influences the development of wind energy and solar power. We analysed differences in policymaking and energy policies were influenced by economic ties between utilities and the government, in practice the government's shareholdings in large utilities in Denmark, Germany, Finland and Spain.

Why is it important?

It is important to highlight how economic interest of few, large firms can influence energy policies and slow down the deployment of renewable power generation technologies.

Perspectives

A transition to sustainable energy needs strong energy policies. You cannot outsource the energy policy to the markets and hope for a change.
