What is it about?

A coupled change in ocean circulation and atmospheric CO2 during oceanic anoxic event 2 (OAE 2), and also pulses of volcanism, probably from the High Arctic large igneous provinces (LIPs), were detected during OAE 2.

Why is it important?

A direct reconstruction of ocean circulation during OAE 2, and its link to climatic changes during the event.

Perspectives

The tight coupling between ocean circulation change and atmospheric CO2 drop during OAE 2 is potentially important feedback that had sustained the event for a long time span.
