Why is it important?

A new design algorithm fully automate repetitive ball joint assembly design. It can parametrically change assembly, part, part material, feature, geometry and dimensions in a programmable environment using 3D CAD modelling techniques. It allows changes in the number of parts used in an assembly by subtraction or addition of a part. In addition, the algorithms of the proposed platform completely fix lowest level of CAD design, and it is compatible for different variant topology of a 3D CAD parts

Perspectives

We hope that this article may be useful to ease the design of parts such as ball joints which have hundreds of different types and configurations. The proposed parametric design platform fully meets the requirements of the ball joint design. It enabled repetitive design of various types of ball joints including all alternative parts. It also enabled automating parametric assembly modelling with possible features depending on the desired configuration, and worked well for all the possible ball joint configurations with minimum duration for the design process. The proposed platform can also be applied to mechanical (roller bearings, gearboxes, pumps) and other mechanical or electromechanical assemblies. We hope you find this article useful and apply the method to other assemblies having different types and configurations. We will also be very pleased to see the applications of the study in other areas.
