What is it about?

Nurses need access to scientific information to update our knowledge, solve doubts of daily practice and perform research. Online resources, especially through mobile devices, offer quick access to large amounts of information. The use of the Internet to reach relevant, updated and complete literature indexed in bibliographic databases has already become part of the nurses' daily lives.

Why is it important?

As a result of information overload, it becomes necessary to learn to conduct efficient literature searches. Carrying out a relevant search is not a talent, but a skill that must be learned and taught and that must be a formal part of the training of health science professionals. Nurses must assess the importance of the literature search in the research process, become familiar with the different types of resources and documents, and know the main sources of information in nursing.

Perspectives

The approach to the sources raises a series of disadvantages. There are millions of sites where you can find information on any topic. This produces an information overload called infoxication or infobesity. In addition, it is necessary to acquire skills and know the correct techniques in the search of literature that save us time and improve the quality of the recovered data. Most of us do not carry out an efficient bibliographical search on the Internet, but we must bear in mind that the effective search for literature is not a talent but a skill that can be learned.
