What is it about?

The paper reviews the set of biodiversity indicators assigned by the European Environment Agency and sorts them according to relevance to biodiversity.

Why is it important?

This is the first time that biodiversity indicators have been related as connected and hierarchical. I show that two indicators might be assumed to be the best indicators for biodiversity 1. Extent of protected land 2. nitrogen deposition.

Perspectives

This work related to the activity stimulated by the EEA to establish indicators of biodiversity such that change can be deduced. Dr feest was part of the working party.
