What is it about?

LA strains are becoming more and more important to assess LA function quantitatively.

Why is it important?

Normal reference ranges for LA strain were reported from initial few studies with modest sample sizes (n = 100–350) . Via systematic review and meta-analysis, The normal ranges were determined from 40 studies (n=2,542 healthy subjects) . Reservoir strain: 39% [95% CI, 38%–41%] Conduit strain: 23% [21%–25%] Contractile strain (LA Kick function): 17% [16%–19%].

Perspectives

Roughly, normal range for Reservoir strain is >38%, Conduit strain>21% and Contractile strain >16%. Reservoir strain = conduit strain + contractile strain
