What is it about?

Diamond like carbon films deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition were study by photoacoustic techniques. The behavior of the thermal diffusivity depending on the thickness is compared with the behavior of OH bands.

Why is it important?

Becouse, it is essential to consider the applications of the a-C:H thin films in the analysis of thermo-optical properties with respect to the films thickness. The thickness of the films was confirmed to be an important parameter and the thermo-optical analysis can indicate a suitable film for a specific application.

Perspectives

I know that the fraction of sp3-bonded carbon and sp2 cluster size [3] influence the thermal properties of the thin films. And the decreasing of thermal diffusivity with increasing thickness is not solely understood by the enhancement of OH band. However the degree of hydrogenation was the same for all samples (about 25%) and I'm very confident in these results (see Graphical abstract at DOI) since the thermal diffusivity data and its behavior are consistent with literature results [3,5] for these amorphous carbons films.
