What is it about?

This paper provides a literature review of reverse osmosis applications, including desalination, purification, concentration, and other selective separation using membrane reverse osmosis.

Why is it important?

Some review papers on reverse osmosis membrane can be found. However, they mainly focus on desalination applications which include the development of RO membrane materials, design for SWRO or BWRO system, brine or concentrate disposal problems and minimization, and fouling mitigations. In this paper, we provide the information about prospects of RO applications in some areas, such as water treatment, wastewater treatment, food processing, organic mixture separation, etc. Moreover, the challenges are also discussed.
