What is it about?

We use a layer of growing ice to purify ice binding proteins from almost any mixture. This is a refinement of an older technique that is quicker, more efficient, and requires less equipment.

Why is it important?

This new approach makes it easy to purify ice active proteins quickly and effectively even from very small samples. This helps in identifying proteins that are otherwise hard to characterise.

Perspectives

This project is an excellent example of what can happen over coffee. Peter Davies visited New Zealand and spent some time in my lab. We would have coffee each day and our discussion turned to ways of improving existing techniques. I visited his lab in turn and from that came this technique and paper.
