What is it about?
A series of unilamellar liposomes with different thiol percentage (0.1 to 100%) was employed to investigate the effect of thiol-terminated phospholipid presence on liposomal behavior and on the effectiveness in SLB formation. The assessment of the quality of the constructed SLB platform was mainly interpreted via QCM-D.

Why is it important?
Most of the model lipid membrane studies on gold involve the usage of various surface-modification strategies to rupture liposomes and induce lipid bilayer formation since liposomes with polar surfaces do not interact with bare, hydrophobic gold. The construction of SLB on gold in a single step has been successfully accomplished.
