What is it about?
A cotton fabric was used as a model to study water evaporation in porous media. The experimental technique is based on the Dynamic Vapor Sorption. The effects of salts and surfactants on evaporation were investigated.

Why is it important?
Two stage in the evaporation process from porous media has been highlighted: a constant drying rate phase (CDP) followed by a falling drying rate phase (FDP). Salts and surfactants influence only one of the evaporation phases (CDP). This effect could be due to an increase of surface area.
