What is it about?

Oxidative stress is associated with most components and complications of Metabolic Syndrome. Artichoke Leaf Extract (ALE) has demonstrated anti-oxidant properties in both laboratory and animal studies. This study was designed to examine the effects of ALE on oxidative stress indices in patients with Metabolic Syndrome.

Why is it important?

We found that ALE decreased serum ox-LDL level in patients with Metabolic Syndrome, with no beneficial effects on other antioxidant indices

Perspectives

Further long-term clinical trials are suggested to verify the protective effects of ALE in Metabolic Syndrome and related complications, along with identification and quantification of certain effective constituents of ALE.
