What is it about?

In severe carpal tunnel syndrome, when the median nerve no longer responds, ultrasound evaluation is valuable

Why is it important?

Ultrasonography may detect lesions proximal to the carpal tunnel, which may present as severe carpal tunnel syndrome and thus lead to the appropriate treatment.

Perspectives

Hopefully this may lead to more widespread use of ultrasound in evaluation of peripheral nerves
