What is it about?

This article is about determination of trace level impurities in weak acids including HF, H2O2, organic acids by using ion chromatography. For this purpose, two-dimensional system composed of ion-exclusion column, microbore monolithic concentrator and capillary anion-exchange column was used. The feature of the system is connected with monolithic preconcentrator, which can effectively interface the flow rate 0.5 ml/min of the effluent from ion-exclusion column and flow rate of 0.01 ml/min required for efficient separation in capillary column. Thus minimal loss of separation efficiency occurred, which resulted in extra sensitivity of detection of impurities. The obtained limits of detection (LODs) are in the range of 2.1~32.6 ng/L based on the s/n = 3 and injection volume of 50 μL.

Why is it important?

The better sensitivity is achieved with smaller sample volumes.

Perspectives

The developed method can improve the quality of the reagents and monitoring of their purification. The proposed scheme can be used in other chromatographic modes.
