What is it about?

We used corn husk and rice husk to remove lead (Pb) from water using corn and rice husk as biosorbents. The biosorption results indicated very high efficiencies in the region above 90%.

Why is it important?

Application of low-cost biomaterials for water treatment is important especially when and where the conventional water treatment technologies either do not exist or not cost effective. Sometimes conventional technologies are there but they are less efficient in removing pollutants, especially when those pollutants are at very low concentrations.

Perspectives

This publication has attracted attention to many researchers. It has been only two years since we published it, but it has been cited more than 20 times. It seems to me that research about organic ways of treating water and wastewater is a prime field of research.
