What is it about?
Can Facebook use become compulsive? If yes, what does make people become addicted to Facebook? This work investigates potential predictors of Facebook addiction. Based on an online survey of 581 social network site (SNS) users, we found that thwarted intrinsic needs and gratifications sought on Facebook provide a comprehensive perspective on addictive behavior on SNSs.

Why is it important?
Internet applications such as social network sites may particularly enhance addictive behaviors due to their stimulating content and ease of access. Until now, however, research on addictive behavior on SNSs has remained scarce. The present study provides insights into what drives addictive behavior and thus helps to understanding such new usage phenomena.
