A novel SiO2-P2O5-CaO-SrO-Ag2O bioactive glass containing from 0 to 10 mol% Ag2O was produced via the sol gel method.

Why is it important?
Because of their biocompatibility and excellent bioactivity, Bioactive glasses are specifically beneficial for replacement and repair of damaged and diseased bone in tissues engineering. The bioactive glasses have gained consideration for bone tissue applications (such as spinal surgery, orthopedics, dental and other applications) due to their superior benefits, such as osteoconductivity and osteoinductivity with respect to conventional bioceramics
