What is it about?

This work focused on the removal and separation of molybdenum ion from some fission products such as La(III), Eu(III), Ce(IV) and Y(III) ions. For this purpose, perlite was impregnated by trioctyl amine, characterized and used for the separation processes.

Why is it important?

Perlite is an economical adsorbent for the removal of hazardous ions. Biologically and industrially molybdenum plays an important role, and for environment protection, it is needed to remove molybdenum from wastewater. This work focused on removal and separation of Mo(VI) from some fission products. Perlite was impregnated successfully by trioctyl amine and used for the separation process. The impregnation process of perlite enhanced the percent uptake of Mo(VI) from 3.6 to 93.2%. Sulfuric acid medium was used for the selectivity of Mo(VI). Separation of Mo(VI) was successfully carried out using column technique and the breakthrough capacity was calculated.
