What is it about?

This work explains a method of employing inulin, a dietary sugar, for developing a drug delivery system which ensures delivery of drug to colon. This can help in reducing the interaction of drugs with other parts of gastrointestinal system and in turn minimize the side-effects.

Why is it important?

This paper describes a method which can be up-scaled to produce drug loaded inulin microparticles at an industrial scale. For this we have modified the inulin to make it amenable for processing using this method. Morover, as inulin is a dietary sugar, it does not have any adverse effects of its own.
